The first step in having a nice driveway is by keeping it as clean as you can. Sweep it on a regular basis and spray the dirt, grass and debris off of it with a water hose

Driveway problems can be caused by natural elements as well. Tree roots, falling trees, and ground movement can cause a driveway to crack and buckle prematurely. Typically, when concrete buckles, the best driveway repair will consist of cutting out the damaged section and a thorough inspection of the sub base. If the problem area is due to a tree root some consideration should be given to the base before re pouring the concrete. At Brownstone Builder's & Associates we reinforce problem areas with rebar to provide extra strength and durability. In such a case where the sub base has moved the driveway repair will start with an examination of the sub base and in most cases reinforcement by packing gravel in the area.

Another problem with aging concrete is the erosion and discoloration of the surface. In these cases the driveway repair will most likely consist of a stain and seal or resurface and seal. This can usually be done for two to three dollars per square foot so the cost is minimal. In some cases we will recommend a resurface and stain. At Brownstone Builder's & Associates we also offer custom stain applications for your driveway. Outlines, patterns, and inlays help give your driveway that custom look. We have hundreds of patterns available, anything from brick or stone to wood or steel.

Low spots in a driveway can cause water to settle or “pool” which can be very undesirable depending on where this happens, like in front of a door. Furthermore, water runoff in the wrong direction can have undesirable effects like landscape erosion and mud puddles. At Brownstone Builder's & Associates we are experienced in fixing such problems. In most cases we can raise and level certain spots on your driveway. Other times we may have to cut out and re pour a section, cut grooves to act as a drain , or add drains and repour around them. Whatever the situation is, you can count on Brownstone Builder's & Associates to repair the problem at a fair price.At Concrete Contractors we specialize in driveway replacement. We tear out driveways everyday and so we see firsthand what causes the problems. A good solid driveway starts with a good solid sub base. If there is a weak spot it should be removed and replaced with good dirt or crushed rock that packs good and tight. If you have a problem area its also a good idea to reinforce the spot with steel or “rebar”.


When replacing a driveway your first concern, after removal of the old driveway, is a proper grade. This will ensure that the concrete is the same depth all the way across. Many times during the demo and removal of a problem area we find that the concrete is only an inch or two thick in the problem area. This of course is due to improper grading. A quality driveway replacement will be graded evenly and measured all the way across.

A concrete driveway does not have to be as plain as the typical plain grey. Concrete can be pigmented with colors, and we can even create patterns, with colors or different surface finishing techniques. Concrete driveways, though slightly more expensive than asphalt, are lower maintenance and create a more enhanced "curb appeal" to your home. Also, the Fayetteville summer heat often makes asphalt soft where it can become bumpy and form ruts.

 Our process... A complete job from start to finish!
1. Removal and Excavation: Our first step is to remove and haul away the existing surface (old concrete, asphalt, dirt, etc.).

2. Fine Grade: The next step is to finish grade the existing soil. To ensure the strength and integrity of the new concrete we fine finish grade the existing soil with a 2x4 to ensure a very level surface. We also run a vibrating plate compactor over the finished grade to compact and tighten the soil.
3. Identify and Reinforce Stress Points: Once we identify the stress joints we reinforce them by digging out and around the weakness to provide for a thicker area of concrete and place re-bar diagonally across to help strengthen the entire area.

4. Steel Reinforcement: All our slabs come with proper steel reinforcement. Wire mesh is standard but we also provide the option of upgrading to a re-bar mesh grid 18x18 inches on center.

5. Placement of Cement: All our concrete either meets or exceeds standard guidelines, in fact, our minimum standard is a 3,250psi concrete mix and, for more demanding environments, use a 4,000psi concrete mix. All our finishers are highly experienced to provide for proper drainage and fall by utilizing a laser to set all our grades and elevations.

6. Expansion Joints: Proper placement of expansion joints is vital. We put in more expansion joints than our competition and depending on the situation may put in both hand and soff-cut joints. We also specialize in diamond and decorative cuts with beveled edges.

7. Clean Up: We leave every job completely clean and take this part of the process very seriously.

Driveway pavers, or interlocking bricks, can produce a unique look for your driveway. The paver bricks can come in a multitude of colors and be mixed to create patterns. Introduction to Houston-Sugar-Land , Texas
Incorporated in 1837, Houston-Sugar-Land is the fourth largest city in the United States with a population of approximately 2 million people. The population of the greater Houston-Sugar-Land metropolitan area is approximately 5 million people.

Houston-Sugar-Land is located in eastern Texas, on Sugar-Land Bay, near the Texas Gulf Coast. It is approximately two hours from the Texas/Louisiana border. It is unofficially nicknamed the "Bayou City" because of four bayous that run through the city. Houston-Sugar-Land 's official nickname is "Space City" since it is home to NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, where Mission Control is located.

The port of Houston-Sugar-Land is one of the ten busiest ports in the world and one of the busiest ports in the United States. Houston-Sugar-Land is well known for its energy (oil) and aeronautics industries and is home to the world-renowned Texas Medical Center.

Houston-Sugar-Land is ranked as the 32nd "Most Fun U.S City" in a survey conducted in 2003 by Cranium Inc. Factors taken into account in the ranking include: the number of sports teams, restaurants, dance performances, toy stores, the amount of a city's budget that is spent on recreation, and other factors.

Houston-Sugar-Land History
Houston-Sugar-Land was founded by two New York real estate promoters, John Kirby Allen and Augustus Chapman Allen, who purchased the land in 1836 and founded a town named after Sam Houston-Sugar-Land . The city was incorporated in 1837 and was the capital of the Republic of Texas until early 1839, when the capital was moved to Austin.

Some key dates in Houston-Sugar-Land 's history include:

•In 1861, Harris and all of the surrounding counties voted to secede from the Union and join the Confederacy in the Civil War. Not all Texas counties followed suit.
•In 1901, a major oil discovery was made at Spindletop, near Beaumont, giving birth to the oil industry in southeast Texas and Houston-Sugar-Land .
•In 1914, the Houston-Sugar-Land Ship Channel was constructed along the course of Buffalo Bayou.
•In 1961, the Johnson Space Center was established at Clear Lake south of Houston-Sugar-Land .
•In 1965, the Harris County Domed Stadium, later called the Houston-Sugar-Land Astrodome, was completed.
